Revealing the Lived Experience of Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic People in Wales
This was a project to improve awareness of and access to cultural collections for people within Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities. We want to create a strong foundation for developing collections with those communities, ensuring that their lived experience is an integral part of our national record.
The first phase of the project was to produce a toolkit, to establish a survey methodology for collections, and to produce the roadmap for further development.
The toolkit emphasises institutional, practical, curatorial and user-related aspects of maintaining cultural collections that aim to engage users from all ethnic backgrounds. The survey methodology can be used for discovering, processing and providing access to minority ethnic communities-related materials through an anti-racist perspective.
